lyrd-illustrationThatching has always had regional variations, although improved communications have eroded some of the differences between the regions, particularly in the last 50 years.

There are two basic methods of thatching in East Anglia region.

The first method is the removal of all the original old thatch and apply a new coat of thatch directly to the roof structure, this method is widely used throughout the world.

The other method which exists only in the British Isles, is to secure the existing thatch to the roof structure and fix a new coat of thatch to the existing old thatch underneath.

Both methods have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years and are used throughout the Britain today.
